Kernel panic when using external hdtv monitor

When I try to hook my MacBook pro up to my hdtv monitor (rear projection Hitachi Ultravision) it instantly kernel panics. I am kinda bummed about it because I would love to use the mbp on this giant monitor.

Troubleshooting Matrix

I decided to troubleshoot it a little bit. Here's the resulting matrix..

ConfigurationPanicNo Panic
3 different dvi cablesx
TV onx
TV offx
Cable connected to TVx
Cable not connected to TVx
MBP on when connectedx
MBP off when connectedx
Cinema Displayx
VGA Monitor via adapterx
Other HDTVx

All of my software is up-to-date, and this feels like a software problem... I sent the crash report to apple.. we'll see if something happens.

Same issue

I just tried to hook my 15" MBP up to my 63" Hitachi HDTV, and had the same kernal panic issues you describe. All i've been able to find on the issue is your blog post and a single post on the help forums on apple.com. If you find out any information regarding the issue, feel free to send me an email, daryl.wiest at gmail.com.

Thanks much,

Daryl Wiest
